Candidate Q&A
What happens in a Psychological Assessment?
The job candidate will be asked to complete psychological and mental ability testing, as well as to participate in a structured oral interview. This interview normally lasts about an hour. Dr. Selvig personally conducts the testing and interviewing, utilizing computer-based testing whenever possible for the ease and comfort of job candidates.
How long does the whole process take?
The assessment process normally takes about four hours, so please plan on this much time out of your day.
What shall I wear?
This is up to you, but think of this as a “job interview.” On the other hand, one’s attire is only one aspect of his/her overall presentation.
What happens to the results?
With theĀ job candidate’s consent, a written report is submitted to the referring agency’s hiring decision-makers (for example, the Fire and Police Commission). They will combine these results with other information (Background Checks, Polygraphs, Medical Exams, etc.) in arriving at their final hiring decision.
Do I need to bring anything?
Just your Driver’s License. You may also want to bring a Resume because you will be asked to fill out a Personal History Form covering your job history, education, etc. Unless specifically requested by Dr. Selvig, a Resume is not required.
